It does not move from light to dark, nor from origin to resolution. It resists the logic of progress that color charts rely on. What appears here was not selected for harmony, rarity, or beauty, but for the trouble it caused.
Some of these colors were restricted.
Some were permitted only briefly.
Some were erased after serving their purpose.
Others never existed as pigment at all.
Color, in this gallery, is treated as evidence.
